Opening Day

One of my boys asked me who I’d root for if the Dodgers and Indians ever met in the World Series. I said, the Dodgers. It’s been such a long time and I’m so invested in the L.A. teams that it feels like I’m over my nearly lifelong obsession with the Cleveland baseball franchise.

Then, a couple of minutes ago, Travis Hafner stepped to the plate, with Grady Sizemore on third base and Victor Martinez at first. Cleveland was down by four. And I felt that rush. Same as back in the day with Oscar Gamble and Bert Blyleven and Andre Thornton, etc. It seems that, parodoxically, I’ll always be rooting for the Tribe.

And Hafner, the artist formerly known as Shrek, bounced disappointingly to short. Cleveland continued to trail Texas by four runs. And all I can do is hope that the Dodgers disappoint me less than the Indians are bound to.

The announcers just said that Rangers hurler Kevin Millwood has thusfar “stymied” the Indians. Only in baseball do you hear that word, with the exception of Little Rascals screenings…

Here is the Opening Day starting line-up for my fantasy team, LockerRoom Aroma:

C – Geovany Soto

1B – James Loney

2B – Dan Uggla

3B – Ryan Zimmerman

SS – Jose Reyes

OF – Matt Kemp

OF – Justin Upton

OF – Andre Ethier
My starting pitcher is Tim Lincecum. I feel pretty good about my prospects this season. BTW, our league is NL only. I don’t just have a jones for Senior Circuit ballers…

Man, do those Rangers have sluggers! 7-0, Texas over Cleveland…

Vanity Fair sent a reporter who does not like baseball to Spring Training, then called it journalism.

Those Rangers do have sluggers, but they don’t have squat for pitching. Truth be told, though, I wouldn’t mind driving to Arlington to catch them in action this season, because they could be fun to watch.
And I’m fairly happy with the team autodrafted for my Artless Dodgers. I’ll put my left side infield of Rollins and Wright up against anybody’s in the league. Just wait til I add Sheffield!

I think Sheff’s days as an impact guy are long behind him.

Did you know that the commish was going with an NL only line-up? I’m slightly disappointed that we didn’t have any AL options.

But, yeah, the Rangers can sure hit. Cleveland made Millwood look pretty good, today.
